blog 4: tutorial

With this tutorial, I found there was a lot more to the library than I thought.
In this first tutorial I found there are many ways to find a book or topic. Narrowing your search down with specific words is a quick and easy way to find your desired topic. Also, Wikipedia is never to be used as “scholarly information”. Wikipedia should only be used as a understanding or gathering site. In other words, you should only use Wikipedia as a place to start from. Encyclopedias are excellent sources to get your information from.
I didn’t know that different information had different ways of acquiring it. I always thought the library catalog was the only way. I also did not know that plagiarism can also be taking someone’s ideas. I thought it was simply using their exact words.
All in all this tutorial was very useful. It gave me new perspective on how to books or to just get some background information .

Some advertisements catch the eye of its viewers instantly. Others cause the viewers to change the channel almost instantly.

In my opinion humor will catch the eye of the audience before any other type of advertisement. The videos we watched in class had one similar aspect; humor. A lot of advertisement try to incorporate humor into their commercials but one commercial recently has really excelled in this department. Sony's Ps3 has great commercial always bringing good humor and catchy phrases. One commercial especially does this by exploiting X box and Wii's faults in gaming design. Sony uses humor to advertise their new product but also puts down other game consoles. This commercial also gives Ps3 users a sense of superiority.

observing

This weekend I took a vacation trip with my family to a little beach house we have in Sarasota. We have been coming here for about 8 years now. Every time I come back there is something new going on or something different about the surroundings.

This Fourth of July, things were a little different. As I looked out to the ocean, the water was a little darker then I remembered. I am not sure why this was seeing as there was no oil or other visual components to make this change. The water seemed a deep emerald green with the occasional sea foam floating about. As the waves crashed on the shore line, you were brought into a relaxing state of mind. You could taste the salt as the breeze seemed to brush bits and pieces out of the water and straight to your tongue. The smell of sea weed filled the air as it dried on the shore. The seagulls were fluttering about, probably fighting over a dead fish or crab. This was the big picture. Easily noticeable, yet beautiful at the same time.

Now I focused on the little things. Unfortunately, I did not have binoculars. I remembered that around this time, I always saw a lone pigeon nesting somewhere around the house. Last year it was in the bushes near the back yard. I scoured around the house looking for this visitor but no to avail was he found. It was getting darker outside so I decided to turn on the porch light. The light was out so I grabbed a new bulb and went to change the light. That is when I saw my friend. She was sitting in her nest on top of the porch light. (I know she is a girl because she seems to always be incubating her eggs.) I studied my pigeon for awhile and at the same time she seemed to be studying me. As I watched I got closer and closer. She did not fly away or look nervous so I crept closer. Eventually I got to the light and was able to change it while she sat on top of it studying me ever closer. I smiled after my task was complete and thought about how this bird trusted me for some reason. I never thought I would be able to get that close to a wild animal but this bird proved me wrong. Observing the little things can really bring you closer to nature and possibly give you a new friend as well.

What’s up, my names Nick. Im from Stuart,Florida on the east coast. I grew up in Port Saint Lucie till I was about 8 or 9 and then in Stuart. I have one brother, Matt, whos 16. He looks nothing like me and people often ask him If he’s adopted.

In high school I played a lot of sports. Track and Field, weightlifting, and basketball, are just some sport teams I played on. I went to regionals in track for the 4x1 only for my dreams to be slain by a dropped baton. My first year in weightlifting I was put into a weight class two higher then my own. Needless to say, I looked like an idiot. Then next year I went to regionals. In basketball, I played till my junior year. We had a new coach and ill admit I wasn’t good enough to put up with that man. The following season, my brother played varisity as a freshman and took my spot. He went to regionals. I should have stayed on the team.
